The division of the human race as reflected and indicated in Englishlanguage is a semantic universal which is lexicalized in terms of pairssuch as man – woman, boy – girl, son – daughter, and so on. Thispaper’s investigation shows that English language is replete with sexistaffixations, words, phrases and connotations which are denigrating anddehumanizing to the womenfolk. These are terms capable of makingthem inferior, invisible and irrelevant, and therefore impedingcommunication. The paper equally appraised the theoretical frameworkand ideological relations that rationalize such linguistic representation ofwomen as little, substitute and gendered subjects. The paper concludedwith a recommendation of a sociolinguistic model for the communicativeuse of English adaptable to extension communication.Downloads
