Abstract

The study assessed the role perception of Ondo State agriculture teachers in the formation, organisation, project- design and implementation of young farmers' clubs. Data for the study were collected from 60 secondary school agriculture teachers through the use of structured questionnaireschedule. Percentages, mean scores and correlation statistics were used in the data analysis. The findings indicate that the role perception index of agriculture teachers is less than 0.50, implying that majority of the expected role performance is perceived as not important. A significant positive association (r = 0.15, P _s 0.05) exists between role perception and educational qualification of the agriculture teachers. A similar significant positive relationship (r = 0.13, P < 0.05) is observed betweentheir role perception and YFC membership (while in school). It is recommended that the government should revamp teaching profession so that agriculture teachers can develop interest in YFCs programme again. This will help the young boys and girls to be highly responsive to YFCs programme and agricultural extension activities in the nearest future..
